About Michelle

With more than 20 years of experience as a stylist and designer, Michelle James has enjoyed an accomplished career. Her work began in the Midwest in 1990, and took off in Los Angeles and New York City where her great sense of style and talent lead her to expand her career to include fashion design, retail merchandising, jewelry design and work as a fashion stylist for private and celebrity clients as well as television programming and commercials.

Over the years, project work has included wardrobe design for Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, Live with Regis and Kelly, Living it Up with Ali and Jack and Life & Style. In addition, she has created red-carpet looks and every-day styles for celebrities from Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos to Jimmy Fallon and Alexandra Wentworth. Her classic sense of style and fashion has earned her a dedicated group of clients that she continues to work with today.

A creative soul, Michelle finds design inspiration everywhere. In 2008, she began an extensive renovation of her historic 1899 Brooklyn brownstone, a creative endeavor that led to work as an interior design consultant, and one that influenced her to design her own vintage inspired light fixtures to compliment the historic home while matching her classic, simple design aesthetic.

In May 2010, Michelle displayed one of her fixtures at BKLYN Designs. With requests and accolades from interior designers and home furnishing buyers for her unique lighting fixtures, Michelle officially launched her collection of vintage, repurposed glass lighting fixtures in September of 2010. Influenced by her work and experience in fashion and jewelry design, Michelle uses the warmth of brass, in various finishes, with a combination of different glass textures, shapes and sizes to recapture the elegance and beauty of the past with her unique lighting designs.

Today, while maintaining her celebrity client base and fashion industry projects, Michelle works closely with a local craftsman, on her collection of custom, one-of-a-kind, vintage light fixtures. In addition to the vintage pieces, Michelle has also created a collection of contemporary lighting fixtures.

Michelle lives in Brooklyn, NY with her twelve-year-old son Gray.
